Heat Testing Charts

Our independent third party testing is being done by Cassi of AZDiscDogs. As she competes with her high flying disc catching dogs, in the hot Arizona summer she needed to quantify how well the coats really worked.We agreed to sponsor her. She is testing the air and the dog’s ear temperature, before and after the workout.

The workouts last 15-20 minutes,with, and without the coats. None of us want to over promise what these coats will do, and put a dog at risk. We invite everyone to ‘ear’ test their dogs, wearing the coats, and report back to us. She will continue to test the coats over the summer.

We are seeing similar results in high humidity and temperature climates. But please, take all precautions, even when using the coats. I experienced my bulldog overheating. It was frightening — thank goodness he survived.That experience resulted in creating these coats.

Custom Tailored Coats

Custom sizing for longer dogs and fuller cuts for deeper chested dogs are available for an added cost of $50. Please provide exact measurements to us, we will then create a quote and send over the payment details. Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery. Lengths are measured from the dog’s neck to the base of their tail (where the tail joins the body). The chest area of the coats is adjustable to accommodate small and large ranges for each size and each size can be designed with a fuller cut.

What is Comfortemp®?

What are nonwovens?

Nonwovens are textile materials made from high quality fibers. Their properties are as versatile as the applications in which they are used. They do their job, hidden away in filters, sanitary products, in many technical applications or as inserts in garments where they provide support for the shell materials and give them form and durability. They add beauty and style to fashion. Nonwovens adapt to the garment design, not the other way round. In Zentek Clothing products it allows for easy movement and keeping your pet healthy.

What is mPCM?

mPCM are Phase Change Materials that are contained inside a durable microcapsule. PCM, are substances that can change their physical state because of external forces such as temperature. The best known PCM is water. When the temperature rises above a preset level, the PCM turns from a solid to a liquid state. When the temperature drops below a preset level, the PCM reverts from a liquid back to a solid state. This process will repeat as long as the temperature crosses the preset level.

PCM technology was originally developed in the 60’s for use in NASA space suits. With the successful introduction of micro-encapsulated PCM (mPCM), this technology became available to the consumer and industrial markets.

Comfortemp® nonwovens contain millions of these mPCM as is shown in the enlarged photo on the right. These mPCM are too small for the human eye to see.

How does the mPCM technology work?

As is explained above, the PCM inside the micro capsule changes physical state because of a rise or drop in the temperature. In the world of apparel, shoes and accessories, this change in the temperature can also be caused by the initiation of intense physical activity which will increase body heat.

When the temperature rises above a preset temperature, the PCM automatically absorbs and stores the excess heat from the body, causing a cooling effect. This process turns the PCM from a solid state to a liquid one. When the outside temperature drops below a preset temperature, the PCM automatically releases the stored heat back to the body, causing a warming effect. This process turns the liquid PCM back to a solid state.

Because the PCM inside the microcapsules responds automatically to changes in the temperature, the body will remain in a comfortable temperature range longer. With the mPCM technology, you stay warmer when it is cold and cooler when it is hot..

Q: Why do certain dogs need coats?

A:   Dogs have a limited ability to regulate their body temperature. They can only cool through their paws or pant to cool through their lungs.  All dogs, even older dogs, need assistance regulating their body temperature. And dogs with little fat or fur need protection against the elements. These temperature-regulating coats keep dogs cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather.

Q: Dog coats never seem to fit right. How are these different?

A: Created by a professional dressmaker who understands the value of fit and function, Zentek coats are designed with Lycra insets and adjustable Velcro or buckle straps for ease of movement and girth adjustment. Each coat is designed in three sections: front middle and back. Each  section can be resized for a custom fit if needed.

Q: How do the coats stay in place?

A: The chest piece is designed to move with your dog, even when twisting and turning. The chest piece extends through the dogs’ front legs, around the rib cage of the dog to his back. Velcro holds the sides of the coat to the chest piece. Many dog coats slip. Our do not. This was the most difficult problem to solve.

Q: Are they comfortable?

A: Great for dogs who typically won’t tolerate wearing a coat, these are made with a lightweight, breathable fabric, and are fully adjustable, unrestrictive and completely comfortable. The smallest coat is 5 ounces, the largest is 14 ounces.

Q: How do I determine which size to buy?

A: Lengths are measured from the dog’s neck(where the collar sits) to the base of the tail. A comprehensive list of sizes is available in the Products section of our site. Also check out our custom  section for more measurements.

Q: What is Comfortemp®?

Q: Why was the Zentek line of coats created?

A: Founder, Janice Kajanoff believed there was something missing from dog coats currently on the market. She used her knowledge of good design, fit and performance fabrics to create a line of unique coats that enhances the elegant profiles and special needs of dogs. She also experienced her own  dog  overheating in the summer.  Janice also realized there was a need for more reflective material on coats. Janice Kajanoff, founder of Zentek Clothing, has always been a natural problem solver. At age 12 she knew exactly what she wanted to do in life, and after receiving her degree in Clothing Design from the University of Washington, Janice spent the next 30 years as a professional dressmaker.Trained that fit is just as valuable as function, Janice found that there was a lack of good design in the growing market of canine coats—especially for curved back dogs who are lithe and athletic with very little fur and fat.
