With Comfortemp® in all of Zentek Clothing’s Products, your pet stays warmer when it is cold and cooler when it is hot.

The secret behind this technology is Comfortemp® fabric, which keeps the body cool when it’s hot outside and warm when it’s cold. This is the ultimate solution for dogs with little fat or fur, to protect them from extreme conditions while still allowing them the freedom to run, walk and simply be dogs. Keep your dog in the comfort zone.

What is Comfortemp®?

Comfortemp® is the brand name for intelligent non-wovens, into which mPCM materials have been integrated. They interactively react to changing body or outside temperatures. Depending on the individual situation or activity level they absorb excess body heat and store it until it is needed again. This keeps your dog in the comfort zone longer.

micro Phase Change Materials (mPCM)
are contained inside a durable microcapsule, in the fabric. PCM, are substances that can change their physical state because of external forces such as temperature. The best known PCM is water. When the temperature rises above a preset level, the PCM turns from a solid to a liquid state. When the temperature drops below a preset level, the PCM reverts from a liquid back to a solid state. This process will repeat as long as the temperature crosses the preset level. The PCM inside the micro capsule changes physical state because of a rise or drop in the temperature. When the temperature rises above a preset temperature, the PCM automatically absorbs and stores the excess heat from the body, causing a cooling effect. This process turns the PCM from a solid state to a liquid one. When the outside temperature drops below a preset temperature, the PCM automatically releases the stored heat back to the body, causing a warming effect. This process turns the liquid PCM back to a solid state.

Because the PCM inside the microcapsules responds automatically to changes in the temperature, the body will remain in a comfortable temperature range longer. With the mPCM technology, your pup will stay warmer when it is cold and cooler when it is hot.

PCM technology was originally developed in the 60’s for use in NASA space suits. With the successful introduction of micro-encapsulated PCM (mPCM), this technology became available to the consumer and industrial markets. Comfortemp® nonwovens contain millions of these mPCM as is shown in the enlarged photo on the right. These mPCM are too small for the human eye to see.

Zentek  Clothing has carefully selected Comfortemp Materials to line the coats. This lends to the comfort of your dog and the ease to use by the handler. This is the ONLY canine coat on the market using the PCM Fabric in canine clothing. DO NOT BE FOOLED, by other cool coats which use the evaporation process, this involves getting the coat soaking wet and your dog wet. Which can be a hassle and also dangerous if the wet water/fabric is too cold against the body, causing shock. Besides this coat is stylish, easy to use, can be used in cool weather, and PROVEN to work!! Don’t waste your money and time on water soaked inserts or fabrics!

Heat Testing

How well does the coat work in hot weather?

Our independent third party testing is being done by Cassi of AZDiscDogs. Competing and training under the HOT Arizona sun can be hard on dogs. The weather restrictions were limiting the training time and fun play outdoors, much of the year. Cassi tested the coats on her active high flying disc catching dogs!

Each test, includes local outdoor temp before and after the training/play sessions. Also included is the before and after temperature of the dog. This is very important in testing any type of cooling product. We never want to risk overheating a dog. The thermometer can be found at your local pet store, for around $30. This is an ear canal reading thermometer, with accurate readings. Sessions of training or playtime last 10-20 minutes. We invite everyone to ‘ear’ test their dogs, wearing the coats, and report back to us.

We are seeing similar results in high humidity and temperature climates. But please, take all precautions, even when using the coats. I experienced my bulldog overheating. It was frightening — thank goodness he survived. That experience resulted in creating these coats.

You will notice WITH THE ZENTEK Coat the dog never went above 104F !! With the coat you tested at 106F outside!! Wow! Dog never went above 104F. 101F is about normal and 106-108F your dog is overheating and in great danger!

With out the coat even at 75F outside, the dogs temp increased to dangerous levels. And one thing to be noted is that the visual of the dog at 101F and 106F looks the same!

Buy a thermometer! Always be safe, and never overwork your dog!
